First of all, thank you so much for arranging this trip! We had a terrific time. For your future travellers.......
To begin, my husband and I had a lot of airplane points available and we decided to take our 3 children on a 'trip of a lifetime'. We threw the names of various countries into a hat and pulled out China! That is where the adventure began. We knew nothing about China, what to do or see, or how we were going to travel around the country. Our twin boys aged 10 and our daughter age 8 have travelled, but not this far or to somewhere like China. I started the task by looking for someone who could help arrange our trip and point out where and what we should do considering our group dynamics. I was in contact with 8 different tour operators out of China, the US and Canada and then I heard from Cindy ! Cindy has been responsive and extremely helpful. She listened to our ideas, gave great suggestions, and planned a fabulous 21 day trip through China that was interesting, informative, fun, well-paced, safe and affordable (especially compared to some of the tour people I had been talking to). I was initially concerned about handing over such a large amount of money for this trip when I had been warned about several Chinese tour scams, I even went as far as checking out China Visit Tours bond rating and company status. Cindy and China Visit Tours have exceeded my expectations in many respects. They have been an honest and trustworthy business to deal with!
We have named this trip "I can't believe...." because every day we either saw, ate, or experienced something that was new and amazing. I took over 1,000 pictures! Some of the trip highlights included
- Feeding panda bears by hand and volunteering at the Woolong Panda Research Station in Bifengxia
- The Great Wall : as an example of how the trip was flexible, we were scheduled to climb the Great Wall at Badaling, however once in China I had read that Badaling was often crowded and touristy, we arranged with our guide to visit a different section of the wall that we could climb ( it was much higher than Badaling and the views were incredible)
- The Terracotta warriors in Xi'an. So impressive!
- The caves & mud baths in Yangshou- then coming out after having climbed through the caves upon this beautiful valley of farmers working their rice paddies.
- Rock Climbing! For adventure seekers such as us, we loved the outdoor experience. The only problem were the firecrackers going off all over the valley to honour the day of the dead - a little unnerving while you are trying to climb a rock face!
- The Food! Most of the dishes the guides ordered for us were so excellent! The kids became proficient at chopsticks very quickly and tried a lot of new things- even my picky eater was gobbling up some type of seafood and enjoying it immensely. (We all loved deep fried green tea leaves!) For the dishes we didn't like, the guides were quick to notice and the menu was changed for the next meal.
- Chinese Acrobatics- if you haven't witnessed the Chinese "cirque du soleil" you are missing out on a jaw dropping experience.
- The overnight sleeper trains. If you have never travelled by train this is an experience not to be missed. We travelled twice on the overnight train and were sorry that the new high speed Shanghai to Beijing train isn't quite ready. I think we would have liked the travel by train even more often, falling asleep to the rhythmic movement of the train was wonderful!
- Chinese Tea house "variety show" in Chengdu. This was a last minute addition in an open air tea house that our guide suggested. We experienced all sorts of Chinese entertainment including Chinese opera, Puppetry, hand shadows and skits.
- Ocean Park in Hong Kong
- Floating Restaurant Dim Sum in Abderdeen- Hong Kong Island
- The "Impression on Sanjie Liu"- it was spectacular. This was also a last minute add- on recommended by our guide. It was breathtaking. Rumour has it that Bill Gates has flown in twice just to see this show directed by the same man who directed the opening ceremonies of the Beijing Olympics.
- Yangshou in general- a wonderful little spot of the most spectacular scenery. Cindy recommended that we stay here for a five day stretch as opposed to doing a Yanghtsi river Cruise as she thought the kids would enjoy it more. She was wrong on one account - we ALL enjoyed it more! What a wonderful place to park yourself for a few days.
I could go on and on, there was so much to see, do, and experience in China. So many people actually gave us this perplexed expression when we said we were going on a family holiday to China "why China?" they would ask....."Why not China?" is my response. The country is so interesting - steeped in culture and history. Cindy's recommendations were great and really suited our needs. The guides were responsive, helpful and gave great suggestions.There was enough down time so that we could rest or explore on our own, and enough flexibility that we make changes or add things to our itinerary once we were on the ground in China. In a country where there is very little English, I am not sure we could have seen and experienced so much without the help of the guides and drivers, especially with 3 kids and our luggage! Thank you again for all of your organization Cindy, it was the trip of a lifetime!

Sorry about the extreme late response. Overall we loved our trip and would highly recommend having a private tour whenever possible. The whole family learned a lot about our history and culture. One of the major highlights was our great tour guide in Beijing, Bill Cheung. He was extremely knowledgeable and it really helped that he spoke Mandarin, Cantonese, and English. The hotels were great.
Again, the experience as a whole was wonderful. Feel free to use me as a reference.

I want to write a longer message as soon as I get over my jet-lag.
For the moment, I can say the whole trip that you arranged for us was excellent. All your arrangements were perfect and there was never a problem. The guides and drivers were great. The guides taught us so much about China and its people.
We had the greatest time seeing all that we did in China.
It was an overwhelming experience. China was so much more that I expected.
I think we will never be the same after learning to love China.

So sorry its taken me a bit to get back to you....been so busy!
Thank you sooo much for organizing my trip to China! It was my dream trip and really it was so incredible! Everything was amazing and WAY BEYOND my expectations! We hit the ground running in Beijing--our guide Gordon was so good. He received me at the airport and then from there everything was just smooth sailing.
The Great Wall was simply amazing. I mean you think you know its the wonder of the world--but when you are there its even more exciting....we walked on the wall for four hours and I could have gone on forever! The forbidden city was something out of a movie! and the summer palace a surprise treat!
Xian was interesting...the terracotta warriors were a great sight! Our tour guide was so so accomodating. The muslim quarters were such a surprise treat too! again i had no idea that existed and it was just gorgeous!
The Yangtze River cruise was relaxing and just what we needed after the hectic days of touring. Really it was perfect how it was in the middle of our trip--kind of gave me the second wind. It was such a pleasant treat to be on that fabulous ship and the scenery outside---OH MY GOD! The ship also had a gym which was great because I had basically eaten through beijing and xian!
Then it was on to Shanghai which was the most incredible city. Our tour guide was so lovely and accomodating. She basically arranged for us to go to the zoo in addition to the tour already set! Really all the tour guides made our trip because they would just take our suggestions and try so hard to fulfill our wishes. All the tour guides spoke English well and they had a lot of knowledge about everything. Gordon obviously was our favorite but all the rest were amazing too. They were sweet, helpful and always had the best suggestions to make our trip better.
I also loved my tour guide in Huangshan! Actually I loved that whole experience the most. The cable car, the 2.5 hour hike to the hotel and then the 3 hour hike into the scenic area--IT WAS MY FAVORITE PART OF THE TRIP! The food that we ate was great! I cannot believe you chose such fancy restaurants.
The food was lean and DELICIOUS! I had paid for breakfasts and lunches and it was great. We always started the day with a healthy meal with LOTS OF CHOICES and then the lunches were conveniently around our sightseeing so we never missed anything. I would just tell my tour guide what meat I wanted to eat--and they would coordinate the meals around that! Plus all the walking was great because I lost so much weight! I have never looked better!
The Hotel accomodations were great! beautiful and perfectly located. Not that we ever had that much time after a long day of sightseeing. All I wanted to do was sleep or get a massage--which was again conveniently located in ALL the hotels! The reception at the hotel in Beijing was a bit rude--i think it was a language barrier but other than them all the hotels and staff were FANTASTIC--especially the manager at the hotel in Suzhou! He escorted me to the breakfast hall and was most accomodating.

You are a miracle worker; everything went totally as scheduled - no glitches - perfect! You will be hearing from some friends of ours - Sharon & Robin W. They are considering a trip to China in the near future and were waiting to hear how ours went. Of course you can use our name as a reference.
Some responses:
Sightseeing - the locations you sent us to were all worthwhile and not repetitive in terms of too many of one thing. The shows were all different and worthwhile - even the Kung Fu show. However, I'd include the Impressions show in Yangshuo. The tickets were in short supply and there was some question of availability and it would have been a shame to have missed it. The acrobat show in Shanghai was fabulous. We did see some Peking Opera on TV and you're right; it was boring after 10 minutes.
Guides: All the guides were excellent; their information, pace and organization was great - no complaints. We also appreciated than none of the guides smoked.
The whole process with the individual guide was great; you hear all the information, the information is what you are interested in, all your questions are answered and the tour makes adjustments to suit you. When Jesse (tour guide in Shanghai) found out Steve was Jewish, we went to the Jewish guetto/synagogue area and the man opened it specially for us. Jesse had never been there and we spent about an hour there, bought a book and it was very memorable. Couldn't do that in a large group.
Meals:
We really enjoyed the special meals you arranged for us. Cathy took a lot of time ordering for us and the meals and the restaurants were super. It was great to combine seeing the special location, atmosphere of the restaurants with the interesting food. The duck and the Jin Yang restaurant, & older restaurant were terrific. We wished we had set up more local restaurants in Shanghai. The tourist lunches were fine and the time issue made them worthwhile. We also had a great meal on our last night when we just went to the Merri-Lyn restaurant around the corner from the Best Western Hotel in Shanghai. Amounts of food was fine and we always managed vegetables and fruit which was great. Sometimes the food seemed salty but we got used to that.
Hotels:
The hotels were great - great locations and nice atmosphere.
Service:
Cindy, your service has been exceptional; you are the master of the meticulous detail and it pays off. We really appreciated you answering all our questions and spending that 2 hours with us that day in your office without interruption until we had all the details worked out - that was great.

We just wanted to say thank you for an absolutely amazing trip (12 days Golden Route, Mar23-Apr06 2009). Our tour leader Edward was dependable, knowledgeable and funny, and a pleasure to be with. He made the tour especially wonderful for us. The hotels were all nice with the best location in each city and the tour was very well paced allowing plenty of time for enjoying all of the sites, among which, the Clock Collection House in the Forbidden City, visiting the local resident's house, the Terracotta Army in Xian and the bike riding in Yangshuo were more impressive. The restaurants were all great, especially in Beijing where we had the most delicious dishes in the top local restaurants. I would like to thank you for making special preparations for our vegetarian meals as I am sure it was difficult for you. The small group was wonderful.

We have now returned to home after a couple of days in Hong Kong. We have had an excellent holiday. This was a fabulous trip for the 12day Golden Route in March 2009 and we enjoyed it every day! Every thing stand out in my memory, China is very beautiful! The small group size was excellent in each city. Especially Edward, He was knowledgeable and provided for all our needs. We feel very fortunate to have met him and had him as our guide.
We thank you for the top-class local restaurants you arranged for us in Beijing that we not only tasted authentic Chinese food but also feel the real culture with the surroundings while we were eating. We were just back from our wonderful trip to China.
Overall we enjoyed the meals. We were taken to some excellent restaurants, particularly in Beijing and Xian. We enjoyed the Peking roast duck and the Dumpling food. The food in Guilin was interesting and delicious, very local flavored. The food on board the cruise ship was very good. The restaurants we liked the best were in Beijing and Xian.
All the guides were great with a good attitude, knowledgeable, and efficient. The hotels were nice with good location. China was the most marvelous country with many wonderful historic and different places to see. Vehicles were clean, comfortable and convenient and drivers were all friendly.
The way we travelled as a party of 4 was ideal, much better than going in a big group and good value for money as well. Seeing China is a must and China Visit Tour is an excellent tour company to go with. They were 100% reliable and gave us everything they had promised and more.

Re: Greetings from Shanghai.
My trip is winding down and I'm trying to do last minute shopping in Shanghai.
It's been a wonderful trip thanks to you. Everything has been great. I have to say that Shanghai is my least favourite. It is way too crowded anywhere you go that it is not easy to walk around with so much pushing and shoving. It is a beautiful and a very modern city as you know. I guess because of the National Holiday, almost everyone decided to hang out in shanghai :-)
My guide in Shanghai, Yue, is so amazing. She's doing such an outstanding job accommodating all my requests and with such a great attitude and smile. She is simply wonderful. She is definitely making my last few days in China memorable.
My deluxe room at Salvo Hotel is very comfortable. I have the computer in my room so it is quite
convenient to check my mail.
Anyway, i will call on Friday to make an appointment to bring the cell phone back to you and tell you a little bit more about my trip.

I have been to China few times and I am glad to say this trip with your company is simply the best. We were very happy about the whole trip. The meals were excellent. We prefer Beijing and Xian's food. However, our guide was very accommodating and ordered some very tasty dishes for us. The first dinner restaurant was the definitely the best I've ever eaten. Jessica, our guide, was superb. Excellent English skills and exceptional attitude. She went out of her way to make sure we got what we wanted from the trip and that we understood the history of the places and museums we visited. All hotels were excellent and had a very good location that made us very easy to walk around the city in our free time.

Hello Jason and Cindy:
Further to my phone call yesterday thanking you soooo much for everything. The trip was so amazing even better than was expected. Cindy, the birthday cake came to my room and was a real nice surprise and made us feel right at home in Bejing (when everything felt so strange at first). Thank you so much for that extra touch.
We were very very happy with the total tour. We know that we couldn't have covered this on our own. My children are very good with the guidebooks and they admitted it would be too difficult to travel in China independently. The package that we took was totally wonderful and we were happy with our particular package. The Yangzee cruise gave us a chance to get off the tour bus and spend some time relaxing too. We were totally looked after from the minute we landed in Bejing to getting picked up at our hotel and taken to the airport 6 days after our tour ended!!
With respect to the tour guides, (attitude, language, knowledge and service) obviously some were better than others but on the most part all were excellent. Michael in Shanghai particularly stands out as being totally amazing. One of our fellow passengers asked to hear stories about his life in China and we were all totally awed by his stories.
The dumpling dinner was definetely a highlight and enjoyed by all. My children are vegetarians and they thought the food was amazing. The restaurants really went out of their way to please them.
All the hotels were amazing and to us they were first class.
I am very happy with the service provided by China Visit Tour and would be happy to give my excellent recommendation about you and your wonderful company. I consider myself very very lucky to have booked my tour with your company and am very thankful.

Hi Jason,
The trip was truly fantastic.
The tour guides on the most part were very good - they all had their own individual style and their English was quite good.
The breakfast buffets were quite good, although the one at Chongqing was amazing - I've never seen such a variety. Lunch & dinners were good. The buffet lunches were a nice change.
They were all much better than we had expected. Very nice.
Peking Opera Show (Beijing) - worth seeing once. Tang Dynasty Dance Show and Dumpling Festival - wonderful - loved it. Li River Lagoon show - worth every penny - mind boggling.
The Tip Guide provide was very helpful and we followed it closely.
You can give our names out as references; the tour was one of our best vacations ever.
The small group which we had originally thought would be a problem, was actually a big plus since we could move around quickly and not have to worry constantly about losing people when on tours.

Final Comments:
The entire tour package gave us value for what was budgeted. There was a fair balance between quality and quantity of attractions.
Furthermore, the "follow up" service that your company provided, i.e. long distance phone calls during our tour, to inquire whether all was well, gave us the extra level of care and service which was very much appreciated.
To remain current and retain clients loyalty, this "concierge" style treatment in this industry indicated that your company is definitely ahead of other tour organizations.
We have no hesitation in recommending your organization to our collegues and friends.

1. We were very glad that Cindy came on the trip. This was a very good idea and well appreciated by all of us.
2. The local tour guides were well versed and their English was good. Their attitude, service and knowledge was good.
3. The meals were very adequate and well presented. The few "western" meals we had were a good respite for us, as we do not normally eat so much Chinese meals! Cindy took care of the "pork" dishes for some of us! The restaurants were well chosen and had a good clean environment.
4. The tour Coaches were in general adequate. The drivers were very good.
5. Hotel accommodation was good.
6. Sightseeing and the sights chosen were good for us.
We would recommend China Visit Tours to other persons as our experience was good.

I just want to let you know we truly enjoyed our trip to China for the 18-days tour. It is really worth every single penny. Our tour leader David Cheng knew a lot of Chinese heritage and made our tour intriguing. Maggie, one of our local guide, offers a lot of advices to us, which help us feel more secure in an unfamiliar city. She is tough when she needs to be and always makes sure we are getting what we are supposed to be getting. Everyone on our trip had a great time. David made everything interesting to us and he really got a sense of humor. All hotels were great with good location. The food was excellent and the environment was nice and neat. What a wonderful food we had there, tasty and unforgettable.
Be honest, firstly, I didn't know much about your company and I just searched and compared online. I was a little afraid when I decided to take a chance to book your tour because you said your company would guarantee departures. But finally, you really made our tour only for 4 of us at a group price, and there were no any other people to mix in! The experience is very different on that small group. For sure we got more value!
