Day 1: Depart Canada
Your journey begins with the overnight transpacific flight. Cross the International Date Line.
Day 2: Arrive Beijing (D)
Upon arrival, meet our guide and transfer to the hotel.
Day 3: Beijing (BLSD)
Sightseeing: visit the Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City to see the 250-acre complex of palaces, pavilions, courtyards and gardens. Then we tour the Beijing Hutong (an alleyway flanked with traditional residential courtyards) by rickshaw. Visit the Drum Tower and have a bird’s view of the old town of the city with a history of over 700 years. Peking Duck dinner is arranged to round off your first day of the tour.
Day 4: Beijing (BLD)
Full day activities:
Chinese language learning program: 1.5 hours in the morning and 1.5 hours in the afternoon, including listening, speaking, reading and writing;
some more hours are arranged for other cultural exchange and learning program:
Chinese painting, calligraphy, music, Chinese chess or Martial Art learning program: Students may choose one of the activity according to their interest.
Day 5: Beijing (BLD)
Morning visit the Temple of Heaven and see local people doing Taiji (Tai Chi) and. Afternoon tour the Summer Palace – a royal resort during the Qing Dynasty. Kung Fu Show in the evening.
Day 6: Beijing (BLD)
Activities: similar as Day 4 (activities are consistent and consecutive with Day 4’s); a ceremony will be held for Award of Certificate of learning; have a farewell get-together with your counterpart and masters.
Day 7: Beijing-Xi’an by train (BLD)
We drive 70km northwest of the city for a full-day excursion to the Great Wall (to hike the Great Wall), the world's longest man-made structure, stretching over 6,352 km (3,948 miles) from Shanhai Pass in the east to Lop Nur in the west, along an arc that roughly delineates the southern edge of Inner Mongolia. The Great Wall, said to be visible from the moon, was built between 5th century BC and the 17th century to protect the northern borders of the Chinese Empire during the rule of successive dynasties. After lunch, visit the Ming Tombs - 13 of the 16 Ming emperors have their lavish tombs here. On the way back, we tour the "Bird’s Nest" (Beijing National Stadium) and “Water Cube” (Beijing National Aquatics Center) where hosted the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.

Day 8: Xi'an (BLD)
Known as one of the most important cities in Chinese history, Xi'an is listed as one of the Four Great Ancient Capitals of China because it has been the capital of 13 dynasties. Xi'an is also the eastern end of the Silk Road. Xi'an is home to the Terracotta Army designed to follow the first emperor of the Qin Dynasty (221-206 BC) into eternity.
Upon arrival in the morning, we visit the excavation site of the Terracotta Army located 30km east of the city; then we proceed to visit Xiahe Village - a rural area where we learn paper-cut, to see how a terracotta figure was made and to taste local family-made food.
Day 9: Xi'an (BLD)
One day excursion to another rural area village Donghan Village to learn and participate in some local farming work, and then visit farmer's houses to do hand-made noodles and dumplings for your own lunch.
Day 10: Xi'an–Chengdu by plane, Chengdu-Yaan/Bifengxia by coach (BLD)
Morning tour includes the Shaanxi History Museum, the Ancient City Wall and the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda. Late afternoon flight to Chengdu and then drive through the mountains that form the border of the Sichuan Basin and the Tibetan Plateau to our destination Wolong (the Wolong National Nature Reserve) where the Giant Panda Bear Research Center is located. You are specially arranged to have volunteer activities with Panda from the next morning.
Day 11: Yaan/Bifengxia: Panda volunteer (BLD)
Activities:
Attend a lecture on Panda research given by the experts from the Center;
Work together with the staffs in the Research Center in their uniform along with their working hours. Following the Center staff, you will participate in preparing food for Panda, feeding Panda, cleaning their rooms and surroundings, and other daily breeding jobs. (Depending on the different season you visit the Center, you will get a chance to observe Panda in estrus, copulation, body checkup, training, affective feeding, type-B ultrasonic, artificial insemination, childbirth and participate in some of the scientific research activities.)
Day 12: Yaan/Bifengxia: Panda volunteer (BLD)
Similar activities with the previous day. Beside, you can walk around the area after work each day.
Day 13: Yaan/Bifengxia: Panda volunteer (BLD)
Similar activities with the previous day. Beside, you can walk around the area after work each day. Receive your certificate of volunteer participation. Have a farewell campfire party at night with your instructors and co-workers.
Day 14: Yaan/Bifengxia-Chengdu by coach, Chengdu-Guilin by plane (BLD)
Drive back to Chengdu. En route visit the Dujiangyan Dam - a 2000-year old irrigation system.
Late afternoon flight to Guilin, a medium-sized city whose name means "forest of sweet osmanthus trees" - hailed by many as the most beautiful place in China. (Dinner on plane)
Day 15: Guilin-Yangshuo by cruise ship (BLD)
Enduring memories are created as you cruise down the Lijiang River to Yangshuo. After disembark, visit the Silver Cave (stalactites and stalagmites) and Foreigner Street.
Day 16: Yangshuo (BLD)
Today we have biking-tour to the Yulong River (the most beautiful section of the Li River) and have bamboo rafting (about 2 hours) to the Big Banyan Tree (aged over 1,400 years) scenic area, and again biking to the Moon Hill scenic areas.
Day 17: Yangshuo-Guilin by coach, to Shanghai by plane, (BLD)
Drive back to Guilin for further sightseeing of the Elephant Trunk Hill.
Afternoon fly to Shanghai and proceed to see The Bund - a waterfront promenade famous for its landmark neoclassical buildings of European style. Acrobatic show in the evening.
Day 18: Shanghai (BLD)
Full day activity similar as in Beijing, to continue the learning and practice from Beijing and Xi'an.
Day 19: Shanghai (BLD)
Full day activity similar as previous day.
Day 20: Shanghai-Zhujiajiao-Shanghai by coach (BLSD)
Half day excursion to Zhujiajiao - a water town - to visit the typical Chinese living style at the southern bank of the Yangtze River on the way back to Shanghai. Then visit the Shanghai Museum, Yuyuan Garden and the Town-God Temple bazaar. Have a farewell party dinner.
Day 21: Shanghai-Canada (B)
Bid farewell as we transfer you to the airport for your return flight to Canada.
